Ruby Tuesday

and a short story...

One evening at work not long ago, one of the off-duty teens who works at my store came charging in from the parking lot shouting, "Call 9-1-1!" He grabbed the fire extinguisher and raced back out. A parked car was in flames and he emptied the extinguisher on it. It wasn't long before the fire department arrived and finished putting it out.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

It seems to me that Nick was surely in the right place at the right time. He knew exactly where to find the extinguisher and how to use it. I think he was actually on his way to a movie in the theater next door at the time. And he was willing to help.

He is a good representative of the kids we have working for us. They are a good bunch. They make me think that our future is in good hands.

Note: I tried to post a link to other Ruby Tuesday blogs, but it didn't work. Jim has one on his blog along with a very nice RT photo.

Way to go, Nick! I love that he was willing to miss his movie and help out. :)

Great Ruby Tuesday pic. I know ONE DAY I'll remember to photograph something RED and participate.

Good picture and a good story to go with it! I just this past weekend bought a fire extinguisher for our house!

Nick did a good thing and perhaps he has firefighting in his future. Some day I am going to get my camera out and take some photos!

Nick was quick thinking and is sure a great example of his generation. The time you need one is not the time to check your fire extinguishers .... I'll go check mine.

I wish I was assured that I would react with such a cool head in the face of a crisis. Instead I think I would freeze and stare and scream. In fact this is exactly the way I have reacted to previous emergency situations and if past behaviour is a pretty good predictor of future behaviour then I really wonder if Nick would be available to follow me and my family around in case of emergency.

I agree, very few kids these days are even close to thinking like this one.

Yea Nick! I'm glad everyone was okay. And he did the right thing by having someone call 911 first. Smart kid.
