f-Stop Friday

The FEVR (Pronounced "fever")
FEVR stands for Fremont - Elkhorn Valley Rail.

This is an historic passenger train that travels on it's own line about 15 miles from Fremont to Nickerson, Nebraska and back to Fremont. It used to go all the way to Hooper, but the RR bridge is out and it can't go there anymore. I wish they'd get it fixed.

It's really a wonderful to go for a ride on this old passenger train. It's like time traveling. Someday, I'm going to go and take the ride in a costume from the 1920's era; complete with hat and gloves. I wish ladies' hats and gloves would come back in style. They were so elegant! Much nicer than pierced eyebrows and tattoos.

The FEVR also runs a Dinner Train; with a very nice dining car. I've never ridden the Dinner Train, but I'd like to celebrate something wonderful on it.

Riding on the FEVR reminds me of the time, back in the 1960's when Dad, Mom, Shirley and I (I think?) took a train to Mississippi to see Myrna. I must have been 4 or 5 years old (one of my sisters will, no doubt make corrections to these facts)and it was the first time in my life I ever saw a black person.

My Bucket List includes a train ride across Canada.

Now that is cool. How much is it to take the dinner train do you know? That would be a fun thing to do sometimes.

Good question, Ralph!
Saturday 6:30 PM and Sunday 7:30 PM run is $52 per person for 5 course dinner.

Sunday 1:30 PM 3 courses $42.

They also have special events several times a year, like wine tasting and murder mysteries for $72.

Reservations can be made at 1-800-942-7245.

I should have added on my post that the old FEVR RR station is now a small, but very cool museum.

Come to think of it, I need to add a train ride to my bucket list as well. It doesn't even have to be Canada.

I think I'll join you for dinner in the 20s getup. It's a great idea...and we could even play the "Silly Duet" if they have a piano on board. (Wouldn't that be a hoot??)

Janell, you, Mom and Shirley visited us in Biloxi, Miss. when David was a baby. You came on the train. I was married to David Ford.

And, you, Mom, Dad and Shirley drive to visit us in Columbus, Miss when Paulette was a baby. I was married to Tony Johnston.

Just as you said, your older sisters will fill in the blanks. Sue fills in mine; she remembers names better than I do.

I think Suzie was on that train trip and not Dad. Like Myrna said, Dad was with us when we drove one Christmas.

Scarlet; COOL! Yeah, I'll make the reservations and the dinners will be on me!

Myrna; I remember the drive with Mom, Dad and Shirl for Christmas better than the train ride. I sat behind Dad all the way down and back. I still have a miniature bale of cotton Mom bought at a souvenier shop somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

What time of year was that train trip?

The train trip was probably in June. If I remember right David was 4 months old.

Myrna, didn't Bob & I take the train to visit you when you were in Colorad Springs?

Hi Janell. Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth about the train. One year for xmas my Mom gave all of us kids, and their spouses, tickets to ride the dinner train. Shane and I used our tickets for our anniversary that year and my brother Gerald and his wife came with us...it was really neat.(Now that Shane works for UPRR I don't think he would think it was so neat:) We have a train here in Boone,Iowa that does that also and goes across a very high bridge. The scenery is beautiful! We've taken every visitor we've ever had from out of state on that train ride...so come on down!At xmas time they even do a kids Polar Express ride from that movie...the kids and adults wear their warm jammies and slippers, they serve hot choc. and read the Polar Express story.FUN!

A train memory of mine...I rode an AMTRAK from Denver,CO to Omaha with cousin Buddy Smith when I was about 13,Buddy was a year or so younger than me and he was so awful on that train! It was a nightmare! I've always wondered if he remembers that? He owes me!

Anyway, I love trains...I'd rather take a train than go on a plane any day!

I too have never been on it. Ralph's should go with us.

Hi Janell, I like your train. I had heard of it and always wanted to eat on it but it just never worked out for us.
Golf could find a time for us but not that train. ;-)

Thanks, Sue. Somehow I thought it might have been Christmas time, but that's probably just me getting it mixed up with the car trip.

Pam, thanks for the story! I hope we can get over there some time to ride the train with you. That would be so fun!

Cliff; definitely! Let's get our reservations in for the next time they are in the neighborhood!

Jim; you amd Mrs. J should come with Cliff's, Ralph's and us?
