Welcome to Janell's One Square Mile. Title inspired by the great line from 'The Wizard of Oz': "Next time I decide to go looking for my heart's desire, I won't go any further than my own back yard." However, when Joe posts here, it's more like "One Round Planet." Joe travels all over the world and contibutes pictures and descriptions of the places he's been. Joe and Janell are both Conservatives and occasionally like to start arguments - I mean initiate dialogue - with our Liberal readers.
I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but it was snowing like heck that day. I was shooting the picture through the screen door of my front porch.
He is visible, good shot. Jerry has seen a pair visit our back yard. He must have more time to sit and look out the window than I do. I haven't seen them.
Good shooting. Do you put out birdseed? We have a pair that come to our feeder daily. It seems like they give us the evil eye and 'chip' at us if the feeder is empty.
My mom had a pair of cardinels at her house in the country. They lived in a lilac bush out her kitchen window (for some reason that last sentece sounds like the first line of a children's book.)
That's the one thing, I think, she longs for in the country. She loves cardinals.
I just love cardinals. They are so pretty, and when you see one against snow or barren trees, it stands out magnificently. I get all excited when I see one!!

What a contrast with his/her bright red colors in that tree!! Good photo Janell!!
No snow for me. But thanks. (like we have a choice.)
Tough birds.
What I wouldn't give to look out my window and see that! :)
That reminds me. I photoed a Cardinal last summer. Maybe I'll find it and post it. I saw one today, flying low and fast. I was envious. Freedom.
It really does stand out in that picture.
